Mr Hwang is a really friendly boy. Energetic, happy, playful, and loves human interaction. Mr. Hwang was chained up at a factory in China for the last two years. Now he’s learning now to be in the world and learn the parameters of freedom. He has a lot of energy to spare, making up for all that time when he was forced

He likes to play with other dogs but seems to come on a bit strong for the little ones. He would probably do well in a home with another playful dog of similar size or larger. He loves to be outside, and needs a daily routine and daily exercise.

Since he arrived in L.A. he’s had some intensive training. Here are notes from his trainer: He is amazing at “sit”, good at “lay down” with a hand to the floor, will “stay” for a moment (getting there). He doesn’t know come unless you have a treat in hand. He will stop at intersections with a light tug and “halt” command, and will stand still next to you until you say “okay” and begin walking. If he’s pulling a lot, “Heel” and a gentle pull toward you will get him to slow his pace a bit to match yours – he still likes to lead, though. If he gets distracted by a smell or dog / sound across the street, “leave it” and a light tug gets him to reset. Also a light whistle or kiss sound gets his attention again / in the right direction. He is completely housebroken.

Update: Good, mellow. He likes to be outside in the yard and play when they his fosters are with him, and when they are not, he just likes to be outdoors and run around the grass. This guy is very comfortable being outdoors probably because of his past, and prefers it. though he wouldn’t be suited to be only outdoors. He needs a yard with access in his future home. He does very well on walks with a no-pull harness. When another dog barks at him, he does not react at all. When he was in boarding, he played nonstop with Beluga, and after she left, he also played well with Luna, so a great playmate for dogs his size. He loves to go on skateboard runs as well, and his foster takes him for a “pull”. I guess that explains why they say he is mellow, because he’s exercised in such a manner.
