Finch has been an absolute joy to have around.
When he first arrived to DWB after spending months caged up at a vet’s office, he was a grumpy boy who didn’t like to be told what to do, and gave the other dogs and cats around the business.
When placed in the right surroundings, Finch absolutely THRIVES and becomes a lovable little character that everyone who gets to know him falls in love with him.
In fact, Finch does great with other dogs and cats as long as they are easy-going mellow/independent and don’t mind sharing space with him and will not get in his face. He coexists just fine with mellow dogs and cats.
That doesn’t mean that Finch doesn’t like to play, he likes to play independently with his little toys. He will throw them up in the air by himself and bring them to his crate to keep him company.
Finch loves to be around his humans, but takes a little time to form a bond with them. within a week he will roll on his back for belly rubs and neck scratches. He does very well in his crate, and will sleep in it through the night quietly, and also go in on his own for naps and quiet-time. He is not a barker unless there is too much commotion of people going in and out. Otherwise, he is a quiet boy. He is housebroken, and will go outside in the yard to relieve himself throughout the day and on his walks. At first, he tried to mark his territory in the home because of the other dogs, but we put a belly band on him and it worked great until a few days later, we no longer had to use it.
Finch’s FAVORITE activity is going on walks. He is a complete angel on his walks. His tail is always up and his head held high. He will go as far as you are willing! He walks well on a leash and minds his own business, even with other cats and dogs around. He is also good going out to cafes and coffeeshops and greeting human fans, as long as other new dogs aren’t in his immediate space, but he is also fine meeting dogs on walks if introduced properly.
Finch thrives on positive reinforcement with praise and treats. The right home for him is again- a quite environment, without kids or other energetic pets and someone who is a bit more dog-savvy and give him consistency. In turn, Finch will return the favor with plenty of love, kisses, and affection.
