We just rescued Laddie and he is still very scared. He needs a foster/adopter who can be calm and patient and help him de-stress from what was a very frightening experience, the wet, cold and crowded shelter.
Foster update: Laddie is toilet trained and crate trained. He walks great on a leash, walks naturally in heel with no pulling or lunging and loves meeting other dogs and people when he is out and about. He has not shown any sign of leash aggression. He does not have any food aggression or resource guarding issues. We are still teaching him basic commands but he is very smart and alert and a quick learner who is very good with boundaries and rules. He knows he is not allowed up on the sofa unless he is invited and if he needs to go outside he will stand patiently by the door. He doesn’t seem to know how to play or know what toys or balls are about but is coming out of his shell and makes cute little chicken noises when he gets excited so with some more time his confidence will continue to grow and he will become more playful. His favorite part of the day is going for a walk around the neighborhood and stopping in at the local café. The one little quirk he has that needs some work is that he is shy with meeting new people. Visitors need to approach him gently and have treats in their pockets to help him warm up to them and know that he can trust them. His spunky little personality is starting to shine after a rough stay at the shelter. He is a very affectionate little fella who badly wants to be part of the family. At the end of the day he wants to just curl up on the sofa with a blanket and binge watch Netflix. He still isn’t sure about everything in the world yet but being around another dog has helped him with that, he loves all dogs big and small and would do very well with another dog in the house as he watches and learns from his foster brother. He loves routine and would probably do best in a house without children as he is a small dog in a big world and doesn’t like to be in a chaotic environment. This shy little guy just needs some extra attention and some TLC and he will be the perfect dog for any home.
