Poby is just learning about being a dog. This sweet girl is very leery of strangers, or even her people if you move too quickly, but she actually will approach for affection if you are low to the ground and not moving around. She gives kisses when you put out your hand, and although her instinct is to be wary of touch, once she is comfortable she quite welcomes it. She wags her tail most of the day, but a second later may cower and run away–she just needs time in a safe and loving home to help her figure out the ropes. Poby sleeps in her crate, and can spend time in it on occasion during the day. She may bark at first while at bedtime but then settles in
Poby enjoys being outdoors and will come to get her leash put on happily. She wears a martingale no-slip collar and this (along with making sure it is correctly hooked!) is essential for her because anything can spook her on a walk (sometimes even her own shadow will send her pulling unexpectedly). That said, no children should ever be handling her.
This poor girl has just been through so much and seen so much as a survivor of the korean dog meat trade. She cowers at sticks or things being thrown, as if worried someone is going to hit her 🙁 But the scary past is behind her now and she is learning to trust again. She has started to play with toys on her own, and to play with the other dog in the home. She is more on the lazy side and prefers humans but will play with a medium sized dog that isnt too crazy. She is good with cats, but seems excited about them when she sees them outside.
Poby’s appetite is like each meal is her last… She gets very excited around food and has a hard time containing her excitement. She will give a growl around other dogs if they are near her food (although she doesn’t mind crowding others lol). This can easily be corrected with human leadership. a simple raise of voice is all she needs.
In time, Poby will be a great companion for the right responsible home with no young children as their movements will spook her. She should live in a quiet environment (quiet street, without a lot of hustle and bustle), with or without another dog as long as the other dog isn’t food aggressive, cats are ok, apartments are ok, as long as they don’t have noisy neighbors and DO have a security door where she can’t bolt out into the street, and are overall a quiet environment. She is still very sensitive to unfamiliar sounds. Can you give her a chance?
