Sunmi (Korea)

- Breed: Korean Jindo, Shiba Inu Mix
- Female / 4 years / 20 lbs
- Needs a secure yard
Sunmi is a sweet and gentle dog who starts off shy but warms up within a day or two. She loves to be pet and scratched and will give lots of kisses if you let her. She gets along well with other dogs, minds her business unless they want to play with her. No food aggression or biting whatsoever. She loves napping and is very calm in the house but it’s clear that she likes exercise. She will make a loyal adventure companion (but also a couch potato).
Although she loves walking, putting the leash on makes her a bit nervous. She’s a decent walker but does pull a little bit. She is a bit triggered when pulled in a direction too quickly, so just call her name with a gentle tug.
This dog was rescued from the meat trade industry in Korea. After being rescued in Korea, wonderful volunteers donate countless hours to begin rehabilitation of each and every dog. They introduce them to leashes and crates, and work to help them understand that life can be beautiful and kind.
When they arrive in Los Angeles, another phase of their rehabilitation begins. When they first arrive after the long flight, most of these dogs are extremely shy and scared. They require patience, patience, and more patience as they learn that they are also safe in their new environment. Persistent kindness and patience is key. Although they adjusted to life outside of the meat farm in Korea, most sights and sounds in the big city will be new to them. Things like cars, streets, loud sounds will all be new and a challenge to overcome. They are flight risks so we always ask they be double leashed when walked. Our foster team will work with you throughout the process.
